Long stretches of white sand and turquoise waters aren’t just found on the faraway beaches of the Caribbean and Australia. In fact, the UK has just been recognised for its scenic seaside offering.

Four UK coastal spots have been named amongst the 50 best beaches in the entire world, according to The Telegraph.

To form the list, the team of experts identified “remote spots teeming with wildlife, striking panoramic views, atmospheric areas with bustling beach bars and attractions, destinations with luxurious hotels, quiet remote corners, family-friendly stretches of sand and more.”

The judging panel sectioned the winners into 10 different categories: best for wildlife, views, atmosphere, remoteness, luxury accommodation, being active, families, swimming, "hidden gems" and sunsets.

Dungeness in Kent, Holkham in Norfolk, Porthcurno in Cornwall and Three Cliffs Bay in Wales were the four beaches to make it into the top 50.

Placing in the "best for wildlife" category, Dungeness was hailed for its unique landscape – being the UK’s only desert.

Located on the Romney Marsh peninsula in Kent, this stretch of coastline is bursting with wildlife, lighthouses and abandoned boats and attracts more than a million visitors every year.

Two miles of golden sand await visitors at this beach, with rippled dunes and pine woods as the backdrop – so it’s hardly surprising it has been named in the "best views" category.

Often described as the "jewel of the North Norfolk Coast", the beach is particularly captivating at low tide with vast golden stretches of sand.

Described as “the blue of the Mediterranean transported to Cornwall” this remote beach made it into the "best for families" category. Clear turquoise waters, soft white sands and the sheltered setting makes this beach the ideal family spot.

However, the best view of this beach is actually from the open-air Minack Theatre, which sits in the neighbouring granite cliffs.

Three Cliffs Bay, Wales

Sand dunes, salt marsh and the iconic three limestone cliffs make up this bay on the south coast of the Gower peninsula.

It’s a more wild affair than the other beaches on the list. The team add: “At low tide, Three Cliffs Bay reveals a sweep of blonde sand and the sparkling Pennard Pill river meandering through to the sea.”
