A new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is coming to Netflix in 2026. While the past three decades have delivered several memorable takes on Jane Austen's beloved novel, this latest iteration –with the star-studded cast and production team – is shaping up to be the definitive retelling for a new generation.
Here's everything you need to know about the six-part series.
What is Pride and Prejudice about?
Jane Austen's books belong to the most important literary works of our time. Novels like Emma, Sense and Sensibility and Mansfield Park have been studied and enjoyed for generations, but Pride and Prejudice remains her most celebrated work.
First published in 1813, the three-part novel tells the story of the five Bennet sisters, centred around the turbulent relationship between the second-eldest sister, Elizabeth, and the wealthy aristocratic landowner Mr Darcy.
Thanks to its universal themes – love, class differences and the importance of overcoming personal biases – the Regency novel has remained relevant for more than two centuries. In recent years, it has been adapted many times, most famously in the 2005 movie with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen as Elizabeth and Mr Darcy.
Now, the classic is being turned into a six-part series for Netflix, with production officially underway. “We are delighted to be sharing this beloved British classic with our global audience. Pride and Prejudice is the ultimate romantic comedy,” said Netflix executive Mona Qureshi.
What to Read Next
Who is writing and directing it?
In April 2025, bestselling author Dolly Alderton announced via Instagram that she had spent the last year adapting the Austen novel for Netflix.
"It has been an absolute privilege and joy to have been entrusted with this story," she wrote. "I cannot wait to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Darcy."
The appointment of Dolly as screenwriter feels apt. Following her 2018 breakout debut novel, Everything I Know About Love, the author has become a beloved voice for all things relationships, both romantic and platonic. She also writes the now-monthly Sunday Times agony aunt column, Dear Dolly.
“Dolly’s fierce intelligence and enormous heart, twinned with her genuine love of the Austen novel, means she is able to bring new insights, whilst celebrating all that the generations of fans hold so dear," Mona said.
Helping bring Dolly's script to life is the Welsh film director Euros Lyn, most famous for his work on Doctor Who, Sherlock, Black Mirror and, most recently, Heartstopper.
Dolly and Euros are executive producing the series alongside Laura Lankester, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point. Emma Corrin, who is part of the main cast, will also be earning their first executive producer credit.
What will Netflix's Pride and Prejudice series be about?
Netflix has confirmed that the new adaptation will stick closely to the original text, "reuniting existing fans with the timeless 1813 novel, while also introducing a new generation to Austen".
The official trailer dropped on February 24. At just 54 seconds, and composed of swift, dialogue-free flashes of Emma Corrin as Elizabeth, it offers a very brief glimpse of what's to come. The final product has yet to be seen, but it seems Austen fans can look forward to a fresh-yet-familiar take on the beloved story.
Who is in the cast of the Pride and Prejudice Netflix series?
While Emma Corrin as Elizabeth, Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet, and Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy had been circulating for some time, Netflix officially confirmed the full cast of the new series on 30th July 2025.
Joining Emma (Nosferatu), Olivia (The Roses) and Jack (Dunkirk) are Rufus Sewell (The Holiday) as Mr Bennet, Freya Mavor (Industry) as Jane Bennet and Rhea Norwood (Heartstopper) as Lydia Bennet, as well as Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery making their screen debuts as Mary and Kitty Bennet, respectively.
"Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Emma said in a statement shared by Netflix. "To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly's phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can't wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again."
Alongside the main cast, we'll also see the actors playing the Bennet sisters' suitors. Look forward to Jamie Demetriou (Barbie) as Mr. Collins, Daryl McCormack (Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery) as Mr Bingley and Louis Partridge (House of Guinness) as the Mr Wickham.
Siena Kelly (Black Mirror) will portray the antagonist Caroline Bingley, while Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter) will be Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Mr Darcy's aunt.
Rounding out the final cast are:
- Anjana Vasan (A Streetcar Named Desire) as Mrs Gardiner
- Sebastian Armesto (Gangs of London) as Mr Gardiner
- Rosie Cavaliero (Bookish) as Lady Lucas
- Saffron Coomber (Three Little Birds) as Mrs Hurst
