A family and their neighbours have been fined for a trip to B&Q for 'essential wood' for their garden.
Devon and Cornwall Police officer, Adam Bell, revealed he had issued a fine as the two separate households went against the law under current lockdown restrictions by travelling together.
He revealed that a couple and their five children made a visit to the DIY store in Plymouth, along with two other adults in their car, who were neighbours and did not live with them.
"Another day, another COVID-19 fine issued," PC Adam Bell tweeted. "This time, a couple decided to take their five children to B&Q to pick up some ‘essential’ wood for a garden project. What they failed to mention was that they had travelled with their neighbours in the same car.
"Four adults [and] five children all crammed into a car - not to mention the timber wedged above their heads. Needless to say the driver was dealt with separately for numerous traffic offences such as driving otherwise in accordance with a DL, no insurance and causing danger to others."
Listed as an 'essential retailer', home improvement store B&Q has remained open throughout the pandemic with strict social distancing measures in place.
Government guidance states that you cannot leave your home to meet socially with anyone you do not live with or are not in a support bubble with (if you are legally permitted to form one). And, if you need to travel (for example, buying goods or services that you need), you should stay local and avoid travelling outside of your village, town or the part of a city where you live.
