- Taylor Swift stepped out for the premiere of ‘Toy Story 5.’
- The pop star has a new song featured in the movie.
- She later took the stage to perform an unforgettable duet with Randy Newman.
Taylor Swift got to be a fan for a night, and she lived it to the extreme. The pop star attended the premiere of Toy Story 5 in Los Angeles on Tuesday night (June 9)—a dream come true for a girl who grew up on the original 1995 film.
Not only did Taylor mingle with characters and actors on the red carpet, but inside the Dolby Theater, she took the stage for a truly iconic performance: “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” with its creator, Randy Newman. The song is the original theme for the series, and Taylor is an international superstar, so this was a special treat for her and for fans.
Taylor’s invitation to the film premiere was not random. The “Love Story” singer has an original song, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” in the fifth installment of the Pixar franchise, and she sang that for the first time on Tuesday night.
“I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie,” she wrote on Instagram on June 1 when announcing the song. “I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?” The song is centered around the character Jessie, who is the main focus of the plot this time around.
While Swifties are dicing up her red carpet outfit in search of Easter eggs (her Erdem dress is from a 20th anniversary collection — is Taylor’s 20-year-old debut album re-release coming soon?), we’ll be watching her “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” duet again and again.
The 36-year-old singer is undoubtedly very thankful for moms who don’t throw anything away today. Taylor was able to bring her childhood VHS copy of Toy Story for the movie’s stars Tim Allen (Buzz), Tom Hanks (Woody), and Joan Cusack (Jessie) to sign, and she seemed pretty enthralled in the moment.
Per E! News, the singer also walked away from the event with some marriage advice from Woody, er, Tom. “The man must make the waffles on Sunday,” he remarked. He’s been married to actress Rita Wilson for 38 years, so he knows a thing or two about keeping a marriage strong. Taylor is engaged to marry NFL Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, with rumors swirling that the walk down the aisle will happen as soon as next month.
Toy Story 5 hits theaters everywhere on June 19.
