Be ready to bake a crisp anytime. Make a large batch of the crumble topping, but omit the butter until you are ready to use. Store in an airtight container.

Ingredients

  • 4 large green apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/2 inch thick
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened

Directions

    1. Step 1Heat oven to 375°F.
    2. Step 2Lightly coat an 8-inch-square baking pan with butter. Add apples and cranberries to the pan. Combine the sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, nutmeg, and softened butter in a bowl. Sprinkle over the fruit and bake until golden brown—about 30 minutes.
    3. Step 3Serve hot with ice cream or cold with whipped cream.
