This fruit-filled compote—a classic Norwegian dessert—also makes a festive breakfast parfait when layered with plain or vanilla yogurt and butter-toasted cinnamon bread crumbs.

Ingredients
- 4 lb. peeled and chopped Golden Delicious apples
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup golden raisins
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp. spiced rum
- 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
Directions
- Step 1 Add all ingredients to a large pot and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer until apples are soft and mash easily, about 20 minutes. Cool and refrigerate up to 5 days.
