In summer 2021, Rishi Sunak welcomed a new puppy Nova, a Labrador Retriever, into his home on Downing Street.

Since then, Nova has been photographed making all kinds of public appearances. The adorable puppy was filmed receiving a Remembrance Day poppy outside 10 Downing Street on Monday 31st October 2022, as Rishi and his wife donated to the Royal British Legion.

Who is Rishi Sunak's dog Nova?

Nova is a Fox Red Labrador Retriever who was welcomed into the Sunak family in June 2021. It is not known whether Nova was rescued.

Shortly after her arrival, Rishi shared an image on Instagram alongside the caption: "Meet Nova." Sitting on Rishi's lap, the photograph showed Nova staring into the camera — and has racked up more than 28,000 likes.

According to reports, it was Rishi's two daughters who wanted a four-legged friend of their own after meeting Boris Johnson's rescue dog, Dilyn. Speaking about Nova's arrival, a Downing Street source said: "Rishi was fighting it but finally gave in, and the whole building is cooing over her."

This is not Nova's first time at Downing Street, as the pup lived there last year when Rishi was Chancellor. Rishi previously lived at 11 Downing Street along with his family and dog, but has since moved into number 10.

Nova follows in the footsteps of Boris and Carrie Johnson's rescue dog, Dilyn. The Jack Russell-cross was left abandoned with a misaligned jaw, but was luckily saved by the animal charity Friends of Animals Wales. In September 2019, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancée, Carrie Symonds, welcomed rescue puppy Dilyn into Downing Street, after a charity saved him from a puppy farm in South Wales.

We hope Nova will settle in well.
