Lockdown's most popular dog and cat names have been revealed, with Luna, Bella and Milo dominating the list.

Over the past 12 months, the companionship of our furry friends has been more important than ever, with new research by Gocompare revealing that they had over 97,700 insurance quotes for puppies in 2020 alone.

In order to help owners with their new pets, they analysed data from their website to find out which names were on the rise. While Luna was voted the most popular name for both dogs and cats, other monikers in the list include Simba, Nala, Buddy, Teddy and Lola. Meanwhile, Charlie also made the top 10, proving it's still a classic name for dog owners to choose.

"Since spending more time at home in lockdown, the demand for pets has skyrocketed," Sally Jaques, Pet Expert at Gocompare, says.

"While people have more time to spend with their pets at the moment, you also have to consider the long-term commitments of being a pet owner. For example, working from home will allow you to tend to your pets with more flexibility, but there will inevitably be more time constraints in a post-lockdown world, especially if you will be returning back to work outside the home."
