St Andrews may be known as the home of golf and the place where royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton met at university, but it has another very special accolade after being voted the best seaside town in the UK for food and drink.
The study, which was carried out by Which?, put a vote to almost 5,000 of its members and 21 beach towns received four star ratings for food and drink, with the survey also taking into consideration how likely they would be to recommend the town as a holiday destination.
This included everything from the best beaches and tourist attractions to places to stay. But for those looking to have a foodie experience during their UK staycation, there are 21 standout options.
So, whether you’re looking for a new spin on the classic seaside fare of fish and chips and an ice cream cone, or perhaps something a bit more sophisticated, you'll find all that and more on this new list.
Even though Bamburgh in Northumberland took the overall top spot when all of the different categories were considered, the Scottish seaside town of St Andrews was named the best for dining out. Not only that, but it was also named the best seaside town in all of Scotland.
According to Which?, tourists staying in St Andrews “loved wandering the town’s cobbled streets and alleyways to discover ice-cream parlours, bistros and artisanal food, as well as specialist knitwear and second-hand bookshops.”

It’s an exciting time to visit the Scottish town, with plans for golfing legend Tiger Woods and entertainer Justin Timberlake to convert an old cinema into a sports bar, complete with sports simulators, darts and duckpin bowling.
St Andrews even recently became home to the country’s first dog-friendly chippy, when Cromars Fish & Chips created a dedicated menu for our four-legged friends. With £2 beef sausages, puppucinos and free dog biscuits, if you happen to take you dog with you on your trip to the Scottish seaside, they’ll have plenty to keep them happy, too.
If a trip to Scotland isn't on the cards anytime soon, Tynemouth in the North East of England and St Davids in Wales also scored highly, with both achieving 80 or more out of 100.
While Dartmouth, Rye and Southwold weren't far behind with 79.

Holkham Beach, Norfolk
The salt marsh, sand dunes, pine woodland, sandy beach and grazing marsh that make up Holkham is a National Nature Reserve – best known for its stunning panoramic views and varied wildlife.
Where to stay: The perfectly polished Victoria Inn has 20 rooms with a posh contemporary-cottage feel. Stroll through the walled rose gardens, feast on the restaurant's fresh shellfish and walk the few minutes to the golden sands of the beach.
Porthcurno, Cornwall
With soft white sand and turquoise sea, this west Cornwall beach is practically paradise. What's more, it's set beneath the world-famous Minack Theatre – perched high on the cliffs above.
Where to stay: Situated on the westerly point of Cornwall, Land's End Hotel sits upon Granite Cliffs overlooking the Longships Lighthouse and Atlantic Ocean. A restaurant serving local specialities is available on site, as well as a bar. The centre of Sennen is just a mile from the hotel.
Saunton Sands, North Devon
These three miles of stunning golden sand, between the villages of Braunton and Croyde, are host to some of the UK's best surf. Popular with families too, this is a fantastic swimming spot backed by the Braunton Burrows, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Studland Beach, Dorset

Blackpool Sands, South Devon

It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s incredibly popular with families who want to picnic on the shores.
