An extra Bank Holiday has just been announced in 2022 in honour of Her Majesty The Queen's 70th Jubilee – and it's fair to say this is the good news we've all been needing...

The new four-day Bank Holiday weekend will take place in June 2022 to coincide with the anniversary of the Monarch's 70-year reign.

The news was revealed on the official @RoyalFamily Instagram account on Thursday morning (12th November), alongside a photo of the Queen.

The caption reads: "A four-day Bank Holiday weekend to mark The Queen’s Platinum (70th) Jubilee has been announced for June 2022."

While further details have yet to be announced, the accompanying release on the UK government's official website promises a "blockbuster weekend of celebrations".

Explaining how the new Bank Holiday weekend will work, it continues: "The May Bank Holiday Weekend will be moved to Thursday 2nd June and an additional Bank Holiday on Friday 3rd June will see a four-day weekend to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – the first time any British monarch has reached this historic milestone."

Revealing more about what we can all look forward to, the release adds: "Activity will build across 2022 in the run up to the four day weekend, when the eyes of the world will turn to the UK.

"The four day celebrations will feature an extensive programme of events that mix the best of British ceremonial splendour and pageantry with cutting edge artistic and technological displays. These will be interspersed with the traditional nationwide fanfare and celebrations.

"Spectacular moments in London and other major cities will be complemented by events in communities across the UK and the Commonwealth, allowing people to join together in celebration and thanks at a national and local level."
