Roaring fireplaces, hearty roasts, buzzing atmospheres: the UK is home to lots of brilliant pubs and a new study has revealed the 'cosiest' pubs for dining around the country.

Research conducted by South Western Railway analysed reviews from pubs around the UK, scoring them out of 100 based on four factors: atmosphere (ambience rating), busyness (quietness rating), cosiness (comfort rating) and Sunday dinners.

Taking the top spot is the Royal Standard of England in Beaconsfield, which was awarded an overall cosiness score of 99. The pub was found to have a vibrant atmosphere and excellent Sunday roast, solidifying its reputation as a top choice for visitors. It is thought to be one of the oldest pubs in the country, famous for its nooks and crannies, gnarled timbers, worn flagstones and carved oak panels.

Meanwhile, Cheltenham's The Swan came in second place, boasting a cosiness score of 81. This pub received the second-highest quietness score, with a 6% rating.

"Pubs are one of Britain's oldest and most popular institutions, with England alone hosting an impressive 39,000 pubs. As Brits, we all love to find comfort in a warm English pub during the winter months. With this in mind, South Western Railway reveals the top 10 cosiest pubs in the UK and the South West," say the researchers.
