The Birdfy feeder has been amazingly fun to watch so far. We had tried setting up a camera in our yard to capture birds at the feeders but it was never quite close enough or in focus to do the job. This camera gets up close and personal with your backyard bird friends. The pics are very detailed and clear. I love watching the video clips to hear the songs and chatter of our various backyard visitors. Although sadly the videos are only ten seconds long and I couldn't figure out a way to adjust their length. But it does start up new clips right away so may see multiple clips of the same bird visit. I did end up catching a few birds on video that I hardly ever see in our yard such as a blue bird and a red winged blackbird which was a nice surprise. Usually we have very frequent visits at the feeders at our house so the battery did drain quickly. I also had to turn off alerts from the app on my phone because they were almost constant and draining my phone battery quickly. Because of the quick better drain on the Birdfy itself, if you have many bird visitors, I highly recommend this model with the solar panel otherwise taking down the feeder weekly to charge can be inconvenient. I also tried the free trial of the AI to identify birds. Typically the AI eventually got the bird correct but some of the initial alerts from the app were hilariously incorrect. No way do we have wild cockatoos in the midwest US! I think the AI feature has potential but needs some adjusting especially for likely birds at your location. The initial setup for the feeder was super simple overall and it attached securely to a post where we already had feeders with a baffle to deter squirrels and raccoons. The feeder and camera seems pretty sturdy and well built although I do have some concerns about the perch as it seems a bit on the flimsy side. Before installation outside, I did have some difficulty charging the camera but I think I was using the incorrect cable. I never figured out exactly what the precise issue was. But the camera has been charging outdoors with the solar panel just fine. It is also easy to adjust the solar panel separate from the feeder to get a good sun angle. Overall I do recommend the feeder for a fun way to get an up close view of your backyard birds. I think it would be a great gift for someone who may not be able to frequently see and hear the birds outdoors.

    I had this feeder for three years. It worked so well with a solar panel. I purchased all of the attachments, including the guard in the front to ward off black birds and the seed guard as well so seed wouldn’t spill out. It worked way beyond my expectation, stay charged all the time even in very cold weather. I continually had birds, was able to capture beautiful photos. It was easy to install with the app and also troubleshoot. As I joined a Facebook group, all of the users were helpful and we shared knowledge.
    After three years, it could no longer hold a charge. I purchased another exactly alike so that I could continue to enjoy it. The battery would not charge and it was only warranted for two years. Still highly recommend this feeder!

    I got one of these for my parents who are in their 80s. I had to set it up for them. I'd say that It's straightforward for anyone confident in setting up a new smartphone (unlike Mom and Dad). I set it up on their phones and then also got access to their camera. I recommend doing that while you are with the device if you have someone that won't be able to figure out how to add you later:) It catches everything - birds, raccoons, squirrels. The video quality is excellent, whether it is day or even night. I highly recommend. It looks great and is high quality. It is NOT squirrel-proof, which should come as no surprise, since most things are not - that was not a goal, but I wanted to share in case that factors into your decision-making!.

The initial setup for the feeder was super simple overall and it attached securely to a post where we already had feeders with a baffle to deter squirrels and raccoons. The feeder and camera seems pretty sturdy and well built although I do have some concerns about the perch as it seems a bit on the flimsy side. Before installation outside, I did have some difficulty charging the camera but I think I was using the incorrect cable. I never figured out exactly what the precise issue was. But the camera has been charging outdoors with the solar panel just fine. It is also easy to adjust the solar panel separate from the feeder to get a good sun angle. Overall I do recommend the feeder for a fun way to get an up close view of your backyard birds. I think it would be a great gift for someone who may not be able to frequently see and hear the birds outdoors.
